Join us at Makers Mess on May 14, 2016 for the final reveal of TOUCH OF SPRING, a bicoastal collaboration between photographer Paris Helena and Zephyr artist Bryan Meador. Combining photography, painting, and collage, TOUCH OF SPRING presents the culmination of a creative dialogue spanning eight months and nearly 2500 miles. Both artists will be present for this one-night exhibition at Makers Mess, a creative workshop and event space located in Silver Lake, Los Angeles.
Bryan Meador and Paris Helena first met while working at the New York studio of acclaimed photographer Mark Seliger, who will be joining the artists at the opening reception. Following her experience at Seliger Studio, Paris returned to Los Angeles and shifted away from her modeling career in pursuit of photography.
The collaboration between the two artists began with a photoshoot at Paris Helena’s studio. As Paris explains, “I had long admired Bryan’s aesthetic and always hoped we would create something together. I photographed my subject with the intention of creating a series of clean yet evocative images—photographs that could serve as a foundation for Bryan to work his magic as he would on a blank canvas.”
Paris then shared the photographs with Bryan, who added new, complex layers to the images. “With a long-term collaboration, it can be easy to lose momentum. I experimented with a handful of ideas before bringing natural elements into the compositions. In time, the work evolve into a meditation on Spring, which kept the momentum going through the New York winter,” says Bryan.
In addition to the display of mixed media works, TOUCH OF SPRING celebrates the release of 2 special editions by Zephyr Projects, a new platform presenting the work + process of select emerging artists. A softcover book and a limited edition bandana will be available for purchase at the opening reception. The book traces the process of visual discourse between artists leading up to TOUCH OF SPRING. The bandana features a digital painting by Bryan Meador, who is represented by Zephyr Projects.
